Pro Bono Team Secures Favorable Jury Verdict for Client

Wachtell Lipton is pleased to announce that a trial team led by Jonathan Moses, Ethan Amaker and Sunny Jeon successfully obtained a favorable jury verdict against a captain in the New York City Department of Correction.

Our client, a former Rikers Island inmate, had accused the captain of utilizing excessive force during a 2015 incident at a medical clinic. Specifically, the captain was alleged to have punched our client in the face, resulting in a broken nose.

After a three-day trial and a day of deliberation, an eight-member jury in the Southern District of New York delivered a unanimous verdict in favor of our client. The jury awarded compensatory and punitive damages. The captain was represented by the Office of Corporation Counsel.

We also extend our gratitude to Steve DiPrima, Ian Boczko, Randall Jackson, and Jacquelyn Thorbjornson for their invaluable contributions in securing this positive outcome for our client.
